Organic Vegetable Gardening

Let's get a list of veggies and some how to's and get that garden started

We'll add more veggies as we go - starting with the 'easy to grow'

and the 'we like to eat of lot of these' veggies

Things to know: - when to plant, where to plant, soil, harvest, frost - so many things!

(or just plant it in the right season and see how you go!

I'll add links to a page with more info on each veggie soon. Yeah I know, if it has seeds it's a fruit, not a veggie but hey, let's just call them all veggies, life's complicated enough without worrying about being all proper

Tomatoes

Tomatoes are a favourite in most gardens. I like cherry tomatoes as they don't attract the bugs as much as the large tomatoes where I live

Marigolds

Technically not a veggie but a great companion plant. Plant edible flowers and win win win - You, Veggies and the Bees

Spinach / Chard

Couldn't get a much easier veggie to grow. Choose from baby spinach, rainbow chard, giant, all sorts.

Cucumbers

Put a trellis up and grow some cucs. Definately a kid favourite and fun to grow.

Beetroot

Super easy to grow and you can add the young leaves to your salad. I like to grate raw beetroot into my salad, roast them, make a dip or pickle them.

Lettuce

I thought lettuce wouldn't like the frost... At my place, it doesn't care - the slugs do like them though - I just wash them off but if they get too bad, you'll need to find an organic way to deal with them.
